Compiling a study plan

Study plans can only be compiled online through the Web Self Service within the time periods provided. Outside of these periods it will not be possible to make selections or change selections already made.

For students that do not make a selection or do not confirm it within the established deadlines, a departmental study plan will be created, which cannot be changed.

Before accessing the Web Self Service to make your choices, please read the following table, paying attention to appropriate Department, degree course and year of registration:

Students who intend to graduate in the extraordinary session of the 2018-2019 academic year (March-April 2020) cannot make changes to their study plans nor add any additional courses (corsi liberi).

Students outside the prescribed timeframe who wish to make changes to their study plan must register for 2019-2020 academic year as repeating students, subject to submitting that request to the Student Office.

Take note

Please note that with regard to applications for “the Erasmus+/bilateral exchange program” and “Double Degree programs and Structured Partnerships” for the 2020-2021 academic year, evaluations will take into consideration all credits obtained and registered within the winter exam session with no exception. Courses listed as “additional courses” (corsi liberi) will not be considered during the evaluation.

Rules for compiling study plans – A.Y. 2019-2020

- JUNE 2019

Study plans can only be compiled online through the Web Self Service in June 2019. Outside the deadlines it will not be possible to make selections or change selections already made.

For students that do not make a selection or do not confirm it within the established deadlines, a departmental study plan will be created, which cannot be changed.

The selections to be made in June 2019 refer to the academic year 2019-2020, therefore the study plan will be activated and visible on Web Self Service page when the student enrolls in this academic year, after deadline for the payment of first installment  (July 25, 2019).

Elective Courses (June 2019)

For elective courses, the maximum number of students that can register in any given course is 100. Once this limit has been reached, the student will see the course marked as no spaces left. It is possible that this information will change during the study plan compilation period (June 2019) if some students decide not to take the course, as then the course might become available again. For this reason, students are advised to periodically check the availability of the courses they are interested in by the deadline, if they were not able to select the course earlier because it was full.

Students who do not activate a selected course or course of study will be contacted from the Student Office to compile their study plans again. They will be notifed of the timeframes for doing so.

TAKE NOTE

Students who wish to take an elective course while studying abroad in the context of an International Exchange Program, the Free Mover Program or a Summer School and to sit the associated exam must select the general "Elective abroad" option. The exam - if passed - will be included in the student’s academic record and the student will be awarded the number of credits that their own degree program specifications attribute to electives. It should be noted that it is necessary that courses have already been approved in accordance with the procedures laid down for every mobility program Further Information>.  Should the exam for the elective course taken abroad not be passed, the student must inform the Student Office of the elective and associated exam that they intend to take at Luiss from among the courses on the list taught in their own Department that are not already full.

In order to make a conscious decision, students have to check the lists, syllabus and timetables of the courses published on the Department's page in the Elective Courses section and Guide to the compilation of study plans section:

Other Activities to prepare for the labor market ("Altre conoscenze utili per l'inserimento nel mondo del lavoro")

In order to make a conscious decision and for information regarding Other Activities, students must refer to the Department’s page in the Other Activities section:

Language Courses

In order to make a conscious decision and for information regarding language courses, students must refer to the University Language Center (CLA).

- ADDITIONAL COURSES ("corsi liberi")

JULY 2019

Students have the option of adding a maximum of 2 additional courses to their study plan. This is not required and can be done only through the Web Self Service in July 2019. These courses – if on the Department’s list – will be included in the weighted grade point average in thirtieths, independently of the grade earned (see also Criteria for Awarding Degree Grade).

This option is only available to students enrolled for the 2019-2020 academic year in:

  • the third year of a bachelor’s degree program in the Department of Business and Management, the Department of Economics and Finance, or the Department of Political Science.

In order to make a conscious decision, students have to check the lists, syllabus and timetables of the courses published on the Department's page in the "Additional Courses" section:

It is important to know that:

  • it is not required to include additional courses in the study plan, as the credits (CFU) associated with them are not part of the required credits for earning the degree
  • it is not possible to add more than two additional courses from those offered by the Department and shown on the Web Self Service
  • if the course appears on the department’s list of courses offered, the grade earned will be included in the weighted average in thirtieths
  • additional courses may be removed from a study plan, as long as the exam has not been taken
  • the degree thesis cannot be on a subject taught as part of an additional course
  • one additional course that is not on the official list may be selected. To do so, students must submit a request to the Student Office, but the grade earned on the exam, if taken, will not be counted in the weighted average.

- NOVEMBER 2019 (Political Science and Management and Computer Science I year A.Y. 2019/2020)

Study plans can only be compiled online through the Web Self Service in November 2019. Outside the deadlines it will not be possible to make selections or change selections already made.

For students that do not make a selection or do not confirm it within the established deadlines, a departmental study plan will be created, which cannot be changed.

Students who do not activate a selected course will be contacted from the Student Office to compile their study plans again. They will be notifed of the timeframes for doing so.

In order to make a conscious decision and for information regarding language courses, students must refer to the University Language Center (CLA) and to the Department's page in the Guide to the compilation of study plans section:
