Poetry is self-expression, but more importantly, it is about transforming this highly personal form of expression into something universal, something that reaches beyond specialization and the divisions of language. Poetry is also an economical, distilled way of conveying meaning: it is the opposite of wasted verbiage; it is precision, constraint, intelligence regarding the capacity of words to reflect us and our world. Our society today suffers from the fragmentation of knowledge and the inability to communicate it. The goal of poetry at LUISS (offered only in Italian) is to fill a gap, to learn to ignore our fears, and to suggest a different way of connecting.
