The balance between rigor and relevance is an important concern for management scholars. The tension is reduced when a researcher carries out issues on problems that make the headlines and have considerable societal relevance. However, the visibility and sensitivity of such issues also pose concerns. Drawing from two research projects conducted on an Italian banking foundation and on the confiscation and reuse of assets controlled by organized crime groups, Prof. Operti will share the epistemological, theoretical and methodological challenges inherent in this kind of projects.
