Rome, Vatican City State, Florence

The program will take place in some of the most exclusive institutional locations in Rome (UNESCO City of Film since 2015), of Vatican City and Florence. Traditional lectures will be accompanied by master classes and guided tours of unique filming and cultural locations.

Cinema History

The program includes both lectures and workshops on Italian cinema history, specifically concerning the fifties to the late sixties, which was dominated by a relaunch of the Italian cultural industry and by the Hollywood on the Tiber phenomenon, with major American film productions set in the Italian capital city.

Moreover, thanks to the extraordinary contribution by the Vatican Film Library and Secretariat for the Communication of the Holy See, a specific focus on cinema and religion will be offered. Major film production with religious characteristics will be analyzed, alongside the market dynamics and the movie theater circuit, in the renewal environment promoted by the Ecumenical Council of Vatican II

The Cinema Industry and its Market

The summer program will also examine the international film and audiovisual industry, thanks to lectures delivered by experts, masterclasses, and roundtables on production (movies, TV series, web series), cinema funding, marketing, regional film commissions and distribution.
