Doctoral Program in Economics: Overview
The PhD in Economics at LUISS G. Carli is a three (3) year program providing advanced education in all the main areas of economics.
We provide the necessary skills to undertake both academic and professional careers, in universities, international research institutions, public authorities, central banks, consulting and financial institutions. The program requires full-time attendance and it is taught in English. It is designed to give students the ability to understand and elaborate a broad spectrum of economic problems and to provide up to date analytical, empirical and quantitative techniques.
In the first year of the program, students are expected to attend a sequence of basic courses in Macroeconomics, Microeconomics, Econometrics and Quantitative Methods (Mathematics and Statistics). Each course is followed by exams.
In the second year students will have to attend more advanced courses on specific topics. The third year is devoted to writing the dissertation.
LUISS has reached an agreement with the Einaudi Institute for Economics and Finance (http://www.eief.it/), whereby a selected number of students enrolled in their second year of the LUISS PhD program can benefit from the teaching activity (formal courses and advising) and facilities provided at EIEF. The latter is a Research Institute sponsored by the Bank of Italy located nearby the LUISS campus. The academic staff at EIEF is highly rated within the international academic profession. The students who will not be selected for this program can attend the courses at EIEF as auditors.
Junior assistant professors at the LUISS PhD program and EIEF are recruited in the American job market and they are among the best researchers coming out from the top graduate programs across the world.
